Educational touring
Culture-Cross will tour schools as well as art galleries. The final installation piece will enable young people to explore and understand the concept of cross-cultural artwork. All installations in schools will be followed by residential projects of six to eight weeks, conducted by professional artists. The artists will help young people to create their own artwork based on the installation.
The project is already booked at four different schools in 2006. We are looking for additional schools for 2007 onwards.
For more information about the educational project and how your school can get involved please contact Jaswinder for a project breakdown, cost and advice about how to apply for funding.
The first educational project of twelve weeks was funded by Creative Partnerships Slough from May -June 2006.
Creative Partnerships Slough Culture-Cross Project.
The first Twevle-week educational Culture-Cross project ended with a fantastic concert performed by School students on Friday 14 July 2006.
The project started in May 2006 with two weeks of Culture-Cross Video/installation at Creative Partnership Premises in West Wing Arts Centre, Slough. The installation was followed by ten weeks of artist residency in following two schools-
Westgate School Slough,
Slough @ Eton School Slough.
For the ten weeks Culture-Cross lead workshop artists, Jaswinder Singh & Roger Watson(also featured in main installation/film) worked with students in both Schools to support the students from Year 7, Year 9 & GCSE to make new music pieces based on English & Punjabi Folk music. The original idea was further evolved as students composed music pieces by integrating music elements from English, Punjabi, African & Latin American cultures.
Jackie Oates was another guest artist for two weeks.
The result was simple-
Students composed short music pieces for live performance with support from the Culture-Cross artists and School music teachers,
Some students recorded and mixed music by using Audio softwares and music samples recorded by Culture-Cross artists.
The project helped students to-
gain confidence,
working cross-culturally,
Better understanding of other cultures,
develop music skills by working with professional artists.
The final performance was filmed, followed by video interviews with School students and Audio CD for original music pieces.
Culture-cross going to Guildford And Bracknell in September-November 2006.
These are eight weeks educational residential projects happening in the third and fourth Schools. Both projects would feature a two weeks Culture-Cross video installation followed by six weeks residency with 3-4 artists.
