About Culture-Cross
Culture-Cross is a Multi-Screen Video/sound installation on cross-cultural artwork in England. Although this project has been developed and produced in England, the video installation draws on cross-cultural artwork from all over the world.
Jaswinder began developing Culture-Cross in September 2004. One of the main questions he is exploring is what is cross culture artwork, and open a debate within the arts industry about its definition. This is a subjective way of exploring this concept, which will also open a debate on the problematic issue multiculturalism
and cross-cultural artwork?
Does it suggest artist work within their communities or does it represent work of different cultures on a common stage?
How different cultures are coming across and crossing boundaries?
What we can achieve through Cross Cultural artwork?
During first stage, Jaswinder will work with eight artists in turn from different cultures and countries. At the second stage he will invite artists into a studio space at Norden farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead, to experiment with cross-cultural artwork, using their professional music/ dance/vocal skills.
With support from Arts Council England, Jaswinder will develop this research into a final piece of video and sound projections.
Traditional Arts projects (TAPS) in Basingstoke are providing full access to its network of English based artists from different cultures.
